Sugar Lift Aquatint Workshop

Sugar lift aquatint is a printmaking technique that combines the sugar lift method with aquatint. It is used to create freehand drawings or brushwork on the plate. It is a direct process; if you paint a black line on the plate, you get a black line on the print. The image is brushed on with a sugar-based solution with a bit of soap to draw or paint directly onto a metal plate, which is then covered with an aquatint ground and then remove it prior to etching.

Sugar lift aquatint offers artists a versatile method to create delicate, painterly, and tonal effects in etchings. The sugar lift solution provides a unique resist that can produce rich, fluid lines and textures, adding depth and complexity to the final print.
